How is Sprouting Seeds Language Arts Different?
At Sprouting Seeds Language Arts, we believe that intrinsic motivation is the secret sauce to education - and to virtually every other part of life!
But, how do we encourage a student to become more naturally engaged and interested in their learning?
We give them choices. Every single homework assignment has multiple ways of completing it - draw a comic strip, write a story, paint a picture, act out a skit, etc. We ask them to accurately display their understanding of the material, and they choose how to show us their understanding of it.
When students feel a sense of autonomy and freedom in their schooling, their interest and investment naturally follows.
We honor the process. Students also use a Waldorf inspired, portfolio style Main Lesson Book through out each unit to collect all of their homework. No homework assignment is arbitrary, instead each piece becomes a valued and beautiful part of their learning journey.
When each student’s unique homework assignment is collected and treasured, it becomes a point of pride for them and a visual reminder of their continued progress and growth.
