Our upcoming unit: Classic Short Stories and Folktales

Reading: We will be reading various selected folktales, myths and short stories including:

“The Golden Touch” Greek Myth  

“The Shoemaker and the Elves” English Folk Tale 

“The Bell of Atri” German Folk Tale 

“Bruce and the Spider” Scottish Tradition  

and more.

Writing: We will be writing a persuasive essay during this unit.

Grammar: We will be reviewing nouns, verbs, adjective and adverbs and learning to diagram them. We will be reviewing the simple past, simple present and simple future tense verbs.

Homework: Homework is unique, open-ended, and assigned with your child’s skills and interests in mind. Students can expect 1-2 homework assignments on each non-class day.

Grade 6

Our upcoming unit:Kidnapped! by Robert Louis Stevenson

Reading: We will be reading the first portion of Kidnapped! by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will finish Kidnapped in the following unit.

Writing: We will be writing persuasive essays during this unit.

Grammar: We will be reviewing clauses and phrases, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, and simple, compound and complex sentences.

We will also be reviewing the eight parts of speech, the perfect verbs tenses and sentences diagramming.

Homework: Homework is unique, open-ended, and assigned with your child’s skills and interests in mind. Students can expect 2 homework assignments on each non-class day.

Our upcoming unit: Victorian Era Literature Part 1

Reading: We will be reading several short stories and/or excerpts from three famous Victorian Era Writers: Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson and Arthur Conan Doyle.

Writing: We will be writing persuasive essays during this unit.

Grammar: We will be reviewing clauses and phrases, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, and simple, compound and complex sentences.

We will also be reviewing the eight parts of speech, the perfect verbs tenses and sentences diagramming.

Homework: Homework is unique, open-ended, and assigned with your child’s skills and interests in mind. Students can expect 2-3 homework assignments on each non-class day.

There is currently no class for grades 5 & 7.

However, please reach out! We can possibly build a class for your child at a day and time that works for you!

Instead of a full hour, these classes will be 30 minute, 1-on-1 classes, and they will be open for other equal level students to join at the beginning of each new unit.

When is the right time to join?
